Building the Verticals
At inception JD Capital identified a number of key growth sectors that would be the primary targets for the majority of its investment activities, namely energy and infrastructure, financial services and real estate. Nevertheless, JD Capital thought it fundamental to remain flexible in terms of identifying promising private equity acquisitions on an opportunistic basis.
This targeted sector approach was soon after transformed into the development of fully functioning and dedicated verticals that carry out JD Capital’s activities in their respective fields. We believe that this approach is a critical ingredient for creating added value, as extensive sector knowledge enables us to better identify and execute opportunities correctly thus allowing us to manage risk more pro-actively. This also sets a firm basis on which we can design and implement a sustainable competitive advantage or exploit a strategic opportunity.
JD Capital's first major step towards this direction was the acquisition of AQARCO and its transition into Jordan Dubai Properties (JD Properties). JD Properties is now a public shareholding company listed on the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE), serving as a master planner, developer and investor on behalf of JD Capital in the Jordanian real estate and tourism sectors.
Similarly, Jordan Dubai Energy and Infrastructure (JD Energy & Infrastructure) and Jordan Dubai Financial (JD Financial) were established, with dedicated and specialized teams allowing for an expert focus on specific sectors and a thorough sourcing of demand from new and unexpected investor bases. Underpinning this approach is a comprehensive risk-control framework that ensures that investment views are translated and that all verticals continue to act within and execute the investment strategy and objectives of JD Capital as directed by the shareholders.
